Five Reasons to attend our First Aid Class, 'Growing Safely'.

According to a study by the British Red Cross, only 5% of adults would have the confidence and skills to deliver life saving first aid in an emergency. No one wants to be faced with a situation like this, let alone if it was your own child. That's why we are so thrilled to be able to offer baby and child first aid classes as part of what we do. When you join us for a weekend of antenatal classes we spend a full day on Sunday discussing going home with your new baby but we just don't have the time to cover the content of a full first aid class. We are too busy learning how to change nappies and learn about swaddling! So in order to learn about infant first aid, we recommend an in-depth, hands on workshop with the wonderful Laura. Here are our top 5 reasons why we think coming along to Growing Safely should be one of your top priorities for your journey into parenthood and beyond.

1. First Aid saves lives

Having knowledge and an opportunity to practice life saving skills, builds confidence and could be the difference between life and death. Eight in ten adults say they lack the knowledge and confidence to act if a baby was choking! Our classes cover all major emergencies related to babies and children. You will also have the opportunity to practice CPR and how to deal with a choking episode.

2. Less worry, more fun

Knowing that you have up to date information and the basic skills to help treat minor accidents and absolute emergencies allows you to enjoy the transition into being new parents that little bit more. Our classes cover ‘baby proofing’ your home, common household hazards and how to treat the most likely incidents you will face over your child’s early years.

3. It can prevent a minor situation getting worse

More than 40% of parents who take their child to A&E, do so because they don’t know what to do for their child. We want to help give you the confidence to treat a minor injury or act appropriately with signs of illness before it potentially escalates into something more serious. Our class covers signs and symptoms of sepsis, meningitis and how to spot the worsening signs for the right time to seek emergency help.

4. Led by an experienced midwife (and mum!)

Laura is an experienced and certified first aid instructor. She guides you through the classes ensuring you learn practical hands on skills and important information without it being overwhelming. Laura is also a mum to three small little ones and is happy to answer any question you might have. She is knowledgeable, honest and experienced and ensures you leave the class with the confidence to apply first aid techniques in real-life situations

5. You can attend anytime

Our first aid classes are really flexible. You can attend when you are pregnant or you can bring baby along. We always provide play mats and toys at our classes for your little ones and there is space to feed baby or do whatever else you need to. You can do our Growing Safely course workshop and our Grow and Gather course or you can do it as a stand alone workshop. Our Growing Safely class happens in central Edinburgh with easy bus routes to the venue. Our first aid classes are suitable for pregnant people and new parents as well as everyone in between who may be looking after your baby or child.
