Baby Massage is not just for Babies

Welcome Jemma from North Berwick Baby Massage! We are delighted to be continuing our discussion on baby massage with Jemma this month. Jemma is an early years practitioner with a background in various early years settings and is a mum herself. She runs baby massage classes in North Berwick, East Linton and Beyond. We are looking forward to hearing about baby massage and how it can be a great tool for parents too! Jemma writes;

When people hear “baby massage,” they often think about the benefits for the baby

and there are many amazing benefits. But here’s the secret I love sharing in my

classes: baby massage is just as important for you as a parent.

One of the biggest gifts it offers is bonding time. During a massage session, it’s just

you and your little one. No distractions, no endless to-do list, just quiet, quality one-

to-one time. In those moments, your body releases oxytocin and serotonin, the

feel-good hormones that strengthen your connection and help both of you feel

relaxed. At the same time, levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) drop, so you

leave feeling calmer and more centred.

Massage is also a wonderful way to communicate with your baby. Your gentle

touch and eye contact send a powerful message of love and respect. As you

continue to regularly massage your little ones, many parents gain an even better

understanding of their baby’s cues and more confidence in handling them. The

massage strokes provide a handy toolkit that you can use to help your baby with

common aliments such as teething or constipation and it can be really empowering to

have these techniques up your sleeve as and when you need them.

My classes aren't just for mums and dads are always welcome too. Dads. Older siblings

might like to get involved as well, creating a lovely bonding experience for the full

family. After class, we share a cuppa while babies often feed or nap, giving you time to chat

with other parents and build a supportive local network. I truly believe baby massage is a really lovely first class you can take together, because the benefits reach you and your baby.

My regular classes run in North Berwick and East Linton and you can find out more

on my website and social media. If you have any questions then please do get in touch.
