Why Your Support Network Matters And How Our Edinburgh Antenatal Classes Can Help You Build One

Pregnancy is an exciting and life-changing journey but it can also bring moments of uncertainty, overwhelm, and isolation. As midwives, we often remind parents that while babies need love and care, you need support too. That’s why building a strong support network during pregnancy is one of the most valuable things you can do and it often starts right here, in our antenatal class.

Our Grow and Gather antenatal classes in Edinburgh offer more than just practical preparation for birth and baby—they’re designed to help you connect with other local couples, share experiences, and form friendships that can last well beyond your due date.

Why a Support Network Matters

Pregnancy and early parenthood are full of new experiences; some magical, some messy, and some that leave you Googling at 3am. Having a supportive network around you can make a world of difference. We know you already have lots of pals but friends going through the early days of parenting together can make such a difference. The emotional reassurance of knowing that someone else is going through the same thing can help you feel so much less alone.

At all of our sessions, whether it's antenatal classes, first aid or at The No Sleep Club, we create a warm, relaxed space for people to learn together, ask questions, and connect with others on the same journey. We help to build your support network through:

1. Small Groups, Big Conversations

Our in-person classes are intentionally kept small so everyone has space to contribute and connect. You’re not just a face in a crowd—you’re part of a group that often grows into a genuine friendship circle.

2. Keeping you Connected

At the end of each course, we connect all our couples in a dedicated WhatsApp group. It’s a safe space to share questions, birth updates, baby photos, and late-night thoughts. Many parents tell us it’s been a lifeline in the early weeks!

3. The No Sleep Club

Once your babies arrive, you’ll be invited to our No Sleep Club, a relaxed, informal postnatal meet-up held right here in Edinburgh. It’s a chance to see familiar faces again, share your experiences, and get out of the house without pressure or expectations. Whether you’ve brushed your hair or not, we don’t mind!

4. Real Talk, Real Support

From birth plans to feeding choices, our classes are honest and inclusive. There’s no judgement or bias, just real talk, expert guidance, and support that continues beyond the classes.

Our Top Tips for Making the Most of Your Class!

  • Say hello! Everyone’s new at the start, but we’re all in it together.

  • Ask the questions. If you’re wondering it, someone else probably is too.

  • Use the WhatsApp group. Share, ask, and plan a catch up.

  • Come to No Sleep Club. A cuppa, a chat, and no pressure with support from Hannah or Hailey if you need it.

You’re Not Meant to Do This Alone

Whether it’s your first baby or your third, one thing remains true: you deserve support.

At our Edinburgh classes, we don’t just prepare you for birth and parenthood, we help you build your village. You’ll leave with practical tools, local connections, and the confidence that you’re not going through this alone.

We’d love to welcome you to our next course.
